General Information:
The Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Aksaray University provides clinical services, education, and research within the framework of surgical anesthesia, non-operating room anesthesia, anesthesia outpatient clinics, and intensive care units at Aksaray University Training and Research Hospital.
Service Areas:
Operating rooms in Block A (12 rooms) and Block B (5 rooms) operate 24/7, with an average of 50 surgeries performed daily. In addition to surgical anesthesia, sedation and invasive procedures are administered to patients in intensive care units and during non-operating room interventions. These include sedation or general anesthesia for procedures such as colonoscopy and endoscopy in the gastroenterology department, and TAVI and other interventional procedures in adult cardiology. Approximately 1,200 patients are admitted annually to intensive care units, where they are monitored by our department’s intensive care physicians.
Educational Activities:
The department offers both theoretical and practical training as part of the Anesthesiology and Reanimation internship. A designated number of research assistants are admitted to the program via the Medical Specialization Examination (TUS) in February and August. The residency program spans five years and includes rotations in the Departments of Cardiology and Pulmonology. The number and frequency of on-call shifts are determined based on the number of research assistants. Each academic year, residents are required to present at least one seminar and one article. Under faculty supervision, residents are trained in anesthetic approaches for all surgical branches, central and peripheral nerve blocks, and invasive procedures such as arterial line placement and catheterization of subclavian, femoral, and internal jugular veins. In addition to general and regional anesthesia, training is provided in specialized areas such as cardiovascular surgery anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, non-operating room sedation and anesthesia, and painless labor. A distinctive feature of our department is that a significant portion of residency training takes place in the operating room setting. As part of the academic program, article reviews, seminars, and case presentations are held regularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 14:00 and 16:00. Residents are encouraged to participate in national and international congresses and present the results of their clinical and experimental studies. The department also actively supports multidisciplinary research.
Research and Scientific Activities:
The department conducts both clinical and experimental research, focusing on surgical and intensive care practices. Participation in national and international congresses is supported, and multidisciplinary collaborations are encouraged.
